For the first time in nearly 30 years, foreign central banks hold more gold than U.S. Treasuries. This development represents a significant shift in the global attitude toward security, liquidity, and trust, and could be a turning point in the world’s financial structure.
Bank gold purchases are reportedly set to break records in 2025, with around 900 tonnes expected to be accumulated; the fourth consecutive year that purchases have been more than double the long-term average.
In the first half of this year, 23 countries have increased their gold reserves, marking the longest period of continuous central bank purchases since 2010.
According to experts, the increase in gold purchases indicates that confidence in US Treasury bonds has decreased. In this regard, Bitcoin, as "digital gold", could also take part in this trend in the future and pave the way for a possible jump in the crypto market.
